Guilt Free Holiday Cookies

This week we have Special Guest Bloggers - Jennifer Barr & her daughter Della

Della and her Mom Jen have been busy this Christmas making decorations for their tree. On Monday night Della & Jen joined us for our walk/run group and I heard all about them making these decorations.

What a great way to have all the fun of making cookies - without the guilt of eating them all!

Thanks girls for inspiring us to get creative and stay healthy this Christmas!

I love to bake and share treats with my family and friends over the holiday season. There is nothing better than having the kids help in the kitchen and the smell of fresh cookies drifting throughout your home. This year, the kids and I found a “guilt free” way to indulge in the holiday baking tradition by making salt dough ornaments to hang on our Christmas tree. This recipe will fill your home with the aroma of fresh baked cookies and will allow you to spend time with your loved ones without the extra calories!

Salt Dough Ornaments

Ingredients & Instructions

2 cups all purpose flour

1 cup salt

1 cup water.

Mix to form a dough.

Roll to approx. 1/4 inch thickness.

Cut with favourite cookie cutters and/or press with your favourite evergreen branches.

DON'T FORGET TO POKE A HOLE FOR HANGING BEFORE BAKING.

Bake at 250 for

2-3 hours or until hard.

Let cool.

Paint and/or seal. When dry, string for hanging.

Another gingerbread alternative is equal parts cinnamon and apple sauce made into a dough. Rolled. Cookie cutters.  Holes. Baked. Strung and hung on the tree. We usually leave those untreated and they make the house smell like cookies too. Again with the focus on family fun rather than the cookies.
