Easter Egg Fun!

Have you ever tried to dye your Easter Eggs using natural ingredients?  This is something I remember my grandparents doing and thought this year we might give it a try. So the kids and I set out to create some beautiful eggs and they worked out great!  I will admit, it is a bit more work and you must take a little more caution with the kids as you are dealing with boiling water.

We tried 4 different ingredients:

  • Blueberries
  • Paprika
  • Spinach
  • Beets

I chose these ingredients because I have them all at home and had read about people having great success. I used four separate pots. Added water to cover eggs, 2 tbsp vinegar, 2 tbsp salt & then the ingredient of choice (about 1 cup - or 2 tbsp spice).

We boiled the water with eggs and all these ingredients, for the same amount of time you would a hard boiled egg -and TA DA!  They looked awesome. My favourite part is that the eggs have a lingering taste of what you cooked them in.

Here are some other ingredients we plan on trying this weekend:

  • Red cabbage
  • Onion skins
  • Turmeric
  • Coffee

We will still be colouring eggs the usual way this year - but these ones just feel so fresh and real. Post your pics to our Facebook group and show us how you made out with your Easter creations - the natural way!

Happy Easter!
